More Sick Food

It's hard to blog about your lunch when you aren't really eating much of one. Mostly better from this stupid 2 wk flu and cold infestation but still not 100% on eating.

Today is mother of all chicken soups: ninfa's with chips and some Airborne effervescent water. That, is living. Not really.

Went w brown rice in soup vs Mexican. Always solid and crazy hot.

4.5 recommended

I Am Lazy

And have the lunch to prove it. Still kind of sick. Yesterday's lunch of channa masala did not go over well at ALL. Thought I would do chicken soup today but then got suckered into Alonti.

Stuffed meatloaf, potatoes au gratin and some fruit cobbler. I think it is a mysterious "berry" variety.

Totally not good for me but I wanted hot food. I like alonti's food bar most of the time. Today's selections are some that are usually very tasty. We shall see how this meal sits. Last night for dinner I had toast.

3.5 recommended kind of recommended depending on what they are serving.

Addendum: just discovered the meatloaf is wrapped in bacon which totally grosses me out at the moment. Otherwise, it's not bad.

One More . . .

I did have one meal that was really good during my sick time, however it was probably ill advised to eat it while in a flu-state.  I ate it and then immediately after had the dry heaves ( less from food and more from full stomach combined with catching whiff of a raunchy smell). I don't really puke. Ever. Which was why I went ahead and ate seared tuna while infected with the flu.

Uni Sushi tuna and avocado with goat cheese in a ginger vinaigrette . This is the shit. For real, it is SO good I can hardly stand it. It's on the bites menu as opposed to entree but with a side salad it is a fantastic meal and plenty of food.Cucumbers are also awesome.  I love cukes and these are peeled and sliced up nice and everything.  You can't go wrong.  On a better day I would have thrown in a chilled glass of sake too.

4.5 and highly recommended!

Still Sick.

Still not really eating which explains the egregious lapse is posts. I will try to fill the void with some backlog.

Here was a work lunch I had a week ago catered in by Maggierita's. now typically I don't care for Maggie's but I have to say this food catered in was really good. Obvs that is the way to go with Maggie's. homemade tortillas with steak and chicken fajita, rice and beans. Also nice guacamole and pico on hand to top everything off with. There were also chips and queso. Queso was velveeta so I didn't eat it. Chips were just meh so only had a few. Not worth it.

I will give it a 3.5 bc there were no fresh tomatoes or shredded cheese for the fajitas.

The Flu

Totally stinks. Have had toast today and a few bites of leftover chicken fried steak from Mel's Country Cafe. A delight by the way. Even after a 20 min car ride was still yummers.

Now choking down minestrone w saltines. This may b worst minestrone of my life. It's a can of course but I guess texans don't see fit to have better minestrone in the store. Hubs said there was only one choice. Are there carrots in minestrone? That's the main reason for all the saltines though. To defray the awfulness. I prob should have made him go to Trader Joes too.

Normal. . .

Ahh reunited with Twist for lunch after our respective vacations. It was supposed to also be Chungry and Smooth Operator but Smoo bailed on us and then Chungry didn't want to eat with me so he made up some reason to not go (he "wasn't hungry" as if).

Hoofed it over to Treebeards at The Cloisters. I'd never been to this location. It is now my favorite. It's like the high school cafeteria for grown ups. It is awesome. Today's special was chicken and dumplings so we each went for a bowl of that. I also got the squash casserole out of habit and the buttercake.

I like chicken and dumplings but I don't love them. These I loved. Dumplings were homemade and tender. Not too floury. Really nice. Chicken was good and the broth or whatever you call it had a good pepper kick. Twist threw some hot sauce in his. I'm not too sure about that but whatever. I'm not judging.

Squash casserole was perhaps better than the market square store. Nice and mushy with good flavor and lots of breading. Perfect for a cold day. Buttercake was not quite as good as MS. Needed maybe 5 more minutes in the oven? Anyway atmosphere was tops and Chungry can go suck it if he doesn't want to eat with me!
4.5 and very recommended!

Vaca Eats Part 2

Character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. Buffet style with a pretty nice and varied selection. Mickey waffles, pancakes, made to order omlettes, baked ham, smoked salmon, bread pudding and vanilla scones are just a handful of what was present. Hubs went for waffles and bacon. Daughter had pancakes and bacon and ham. Baby had bread pudding and scrambled eggs. No. 1 Son had nothing. He spent the morning puking.

Salmon was good, of course. Also had some really lovely tomatoes. Bread pudding also yummy. Scrambled eggs too runny for me. Baked ham was really really good. Overall nice way to start the day!

Vacation Eats

This was billed as cheese grits with bacon. Meh. It was grits with cheese on them not in them. Bland and too rich. Tasted like they were made with cream. Had to salt the hell out of them.

Walt Disney contemporary resort.
1 microwave.

Trader Joe's

You're killing me with this food of yours.

Twist take note: Chicken Pot Pie Bites. WOW. I'm not lying. Holy crap these are good.

And hello, what's this? A maple sandwich cookie? Yes please!

Sometimes I really hate you TJ.

It's Here . . .

My half marathon is in 5 days at DisneyWorld.  I'm getting kind of nervous. Eventhough I think it will be fine, I don't know, there is something about running with all those people that gives me butterflies. . . as long as I emerge injury free I'm happy.  Sparkle skirt set to be picked up at the Expo on Friday and I have plenty of purple and green accessories.  Debating whether or not to rock a mini tiara comb in my hair.  I think I will go with my blinged out Mickey hair clips instead so I can wear my hat.

Not sure how well I will do at postings.  I have spent the better part of an hour looking at old posts to correct some of the crazy auto correct shit that happened to all the ones I did on my phone.  I still have some outstanding posts to do.  Brief preview:

New Year's Eve dinner at Flemings.  I had a small filet with some potatoes, Hubs had ribeye as big as his plate, we both were stupid and got dessert which then made us feel too full.  but it was good dessert.  We both had great cuts of steak.  My medium rare filet was to die for.  Maybe the best I have ever had?  excellent interpretation of medium rare.  Emphasis on rare.  Good wine to boot.

The party we went to had no food that I saw and attendance was down over last year so it was, how shall we say, lame.  There was a band and good champagne though which was cool.  What was not cool was the band played Shout!  Not the Tears for Fears one.  The one that is played at every fraternity party on every college campus at some point in the evening.  I hate that song.  Seeing folks who are 50+ jumping around to that is well, a little disturbing.

Twist is also on vacation starting today so I ate leftovers at my desk.  It was sad.  I didn't really even realize he would be out so I completely neglected the appropriate goodbyes and have funs.  Sorry dude.  Have a drink for me!  Anyway, I had half a swiss, tomato, pesto panini and some edamame.  Not bad reheated.  No photo. sorry peeps.  use your imaginations.  I had a ton of calls and meetings today and feel like I have been on the phone for most of the day.

Tonight will finish packing and be ready to jet tomorrow afternoon.  We are driving again with all three of our little monsters.  Yay for you- you may get to see some interesting road food.  However, knowing us it will be chik fil a and Sonic.  I will do my best to eat something different for you if that is the case.

Wish me luck!

Final Lunch of 2012

And here we are last day of the year and my last lunch. Took the day off to stay home and run errands and be sick. Just got back from doctor. Sinus/bacterial infection you suck. Not real bad yet tho which is good. Just spent 2 days with a pissed off baby with same thing so I'm pretty done with the continual snot that has been going on here since Nov.

Due to chilly wet weather and current health I went with Chik fil a tortilla soup. I got a large and it's pretty dang huge. Hoping Hubs will eat some later.

Is fashion this a white chili rather than tortilla soup. Lack of a tomato base I think disqualifies it from the tortilla soup category. Good kick part of the reason I got it. Hoping to clear my sinuses some with hot spicy soup. If not then I will be drinking the horseradish cream in the fridge later. Doctor always asks me if I'm using my nose spray and neti pot every freaking time I go in there like I'm a dumbass. yES I am dude. I just get sinus infections so deal with it and get me some drugs! Thank you.

Overall, solid soup no matter what it's called though. I give it a 4 and a recommended.

Getting back in bed now for a nap. Have a NYE party tonight so have to get rested for that. I will try to remember to take photos but if I recall last year it was passed hors doeuvres. Ill have to strategize photos if that is the case again.

Happy New Year bitches (not you dad)!

Yodiwiltac out.

Pit Stop

Pulled into Sonic while running errands Sunday. #2 Daughter has the bad manners to fall asleep as soon as we pulled out of the neighbor. Geez, toddlers!  They can be such jerks! Anyway, trying to let her get a few zzzzs before I have to wake the kraken

My impulse was to just get a corn dog but at last minute went with burger combo. Asked for onion and no mayo but here they are anyway. Dammit. Other than that burger is fresh and mighty damn good.

Turned off Monsters Inc and I'm chilling to Michael Kiwanuka. Pretty peaceful. Drinking it in.Diet cherry limeade to drink.  Lots of lime.  It's all good.

The Weather Is Making Me Fat . . .

That and boot camp is over. It was hard but I plan to reup in February. Next stop: DisneyWorld for the half marathon next week. Woot! The only question is will my sparkle skirt get here in time. I may cry if it does not.

Ok, weather has been poopy and cold which makes me want comfort food and sweets. Today's misadventure took me to Luby's with the lunch crew: Twist, Ducky Momo, Chungry and mmmmm I don't have a name for him. Our last member we will call Smooth Operator. Smoo for short. So we all went to Luby's and it was packed yo. We had to wait in a longish line and everything.

Some of the servers (ok 1 server) were getting all testy when you didn't get your plate from them fast enough and trying to short you the roll that comes with the platters. I did the usual fried fish Lu Ann with Mac and fried okra.
Pink blob in back is tartar sauce with ketchup.  Don't even start with me about it.

Fish was dry but breading was crisp and good. Okra was the usual, which is fine by me.  No complaints there.  It was hot and it was crunchy and salty.  Mac was low on the cheese but still tasty. I did not have high hopes for the roll b/c it didn't look great but ended up being the best part of the meal. Especially once it was slathered in butter. Damn you butter.

Ducky Momo and Chungry were firing on all cylinders which made it an entertaining meal.

I'm not even going to rate it because it doesn't matter. I will eat at Luby's until my dying day even if the food is marginal.
