Yesterday was lunch at my desk. I hadn't eaten in for a long time and felt the desk and I needed to get reacquainted. I was also worried my frozen food had been in the fridge long enough that the animals over in the 24/7 support group would eat it. Amy's cheese enchilada with black beans and corn. Looks kind of gross doesn't it? Don't be fooled. It was fantastic. I love Amy's ranchero sauce. Enchilada has real legit cheddar cheese. Black beans and corn are good. Excellent meal. Topped it off with an Airborne soda since I'm still fighting a sore throat. Bonus- Ducky Momo brought me half of his buttercake from Treebeard's! I've gotten him totally hooked on buttercake.

Today was a lunch meeting at the office with lunch from Katz deli. I ordered a corned beef reuben and was really looking forward to getting it. Someone labeled the wrappers wrong so I got a stupid veggie sandwich on rye. While I appreciate ample avocado, it was cut so thick and chunky I ended up dumping the insides of the sandwich out and eating it with a fork and some thousand island dressing that came with it. No photo. sorry peeps. My diet Dr. Pepper also got turned into a regular Dr. Pepper. Brownie was good but that was it. Totally down on Katz now. Someone called to complain and reportedly the manager said, "but I supervised the food being made." Well, that's great but if your dumbass people make the wrong thing it doesn't really matter now does it? Slightly bitter about missing my Reuben. I don't eat them much due to the extreme caloric intake. Now I'm hungry since all I had was tomato, avocado and cheese for lunch. Thanks for ruining my day Katz!

Black Walnut . . .
Breakfast on Prez day with the Hubs. Meandered over to Black Walnut for some breakfast food. Went with breakfast enchiladas. Kind of like migas but in a tortilla. Not a homemade tortilla by the way. That just continues to disappoint. Especially at Black Walnut. I mean it's like 10 minutes from an HEB that makes some of the best tortillas. How hard is it to call them and order up a couple hundred a day? Would have vastly improved my breakfast. Speaking of, it was ok. Too many jalapenos in the guac and pico. WAY too much cilantro garnish on top that I had to pick off. Like my breath wouldn't be bad enough all day you want to saddle me with all that cilantro too? Cilantro is deadly, it does not leave easily.
Decent coffee too so all in all not bad. BW has better stuff though for breakast. 2.5
Quick addendum I forgot. Hubs got the fresh OJ. It was Kick ASS! Oj is a 5 and highly recommended.

Congratulations Wimpy's . . .
You provided me with one of the worst meals I have had in quite a while. That is saying a lot since I can eat about anything.
All I wanted was a hamburger. Simple enough right? Twist and Ducky Momo had both previously been to Wimpy's and I thought it had gotten a good endorsement from them. Obviously if they hated it we would not have gone there. And for the record, all three of us had terrible meals. it wasn't just me. DM also had a hamburger and fries. Twist went with chicken tender basket.
Hamburger looked good at first glance but then after biting into it it had some kind of off underflavor and smell I couldn't put my finger on. Not a spoiled smell. Like a gamey smell or something. And it looked weird. It was a funky dark brown color as opposed to the kind of gray brown color real meat has when you grill it or fry in and cut it open. My hypothesis is horse meat. In any event Duck Momo and I only ate half of our burgers. I did eat all my fries. they were just regular frozen ones so I was cool with that. Twist said his chicken was so overcooked he was concerned it was several days old. He didn't finish his chicken either. Needless to say that Wimpy's is off the list for good I think.
Big fat 0 microwaves and a highly NOT recommended.

Week of 2/11 wrap up
So I don't have pictures for all of these meals. Sorry peeps.
Monday was a work lunch with some firm attorneys. We went for sushi at Azuma. I had the Texas roll which was some version of a spicy salmon roll and I had a house salad. Salad was pre made and given to me right out of the fridge. I hate that. Sushi was great though. Ill give Azuma a 3.5. It's usually pretty good when I go.
Tuesday, I was traveling so didn't really eat lunch. I did however meet a friend for dinner in DC at Founding Farmers. Although packed it seems to have passed its hip and trendy period bc there were an awful lot of old people there. I'm now at the point where I'm old enough that if I think you are old then you're pretty up there. Nonetheless enough younger peeps at the bar brought down the average age. The Schtick at Founding Farmers is that it's owned by a farm coalition and serves local and fresh products. Usually those places have small menus. Not so at FF. menu was too big I thought. I am paralyzed by large menus and all the choices. Asked the waiter dude for some recs and he swore up and down pot roast was the way to go. That just wasn't striking me so I went with chili. He misadvertised it by telling me it was cubed beef and not ground. The menu was inaccurate by saying it had cannelloni beans in the chili. It had maybe 5. And it was ground beef. It was fine. Kind of Cincinnati style with a sweet kick to it. Came with some bleu cheese muffins that sounded good but in reality were pretty heinous and a bad idea.
Started with a Brie and sweet sautéed onion bruschetta type thing. Not bad but there were way too many onions that overpowered the cheese. I give it a "meh". My friend got the roasted chicken with potato and butternut squash. Looked good and she was happy with it. I had asked Chungry's advice on an entree but he got back to me after I ordered. Guess what he suggested? The pot roast.
Also got a homemade ginger soda. YUM. Spicy, not too sweet. I had 2 even though $4 for a soda is ridiculous homemade or not. I'll say 3.5. I need to go back and have pot roast though I think.
Wednesday was grilled cheese at government agency cafeteria. Awesome with capital A. And they always have good dill pickles. No complaints. Actually my only beef with eating at FERC is how long the hot grill line is. I'm always the last person to get lunch and be seated. Everyone else is smart and gets the hot bar or salad bar. They do have good chicken on the salad bar so I guess I should just give up and do that next time.
Thursday I have no idea what I ate. Treebeards maybe? I have yet another pic on my phone of shrimp etouffee and squash casserole with a side of buttercake. I do recall squash casserole not up to snuff. still good but not enough breading in the casserole and what there was was dry so not enough egg and milk in the mix. Buttercake, good. Luckily Ducky Momo ate most of it so I only got a few bites which is just enough.
Friday was a bar lunch thing with a speaker and Jason's deli. Had roast beef on croissant. Very nice. fresh croissant, dry sandwich, good fruit cup and an oatmeal raisin cookie. No complaints. I ate half the sandwich then took half home with me. Then I forgot to take that half out of my handbag and the dog finally found it Saturday and ate it. An empty brown wrapper was in the middle of the kitchen floor. Took me a sec to figure out what it was. Hope you enjoyed it Dog.

Old Favorites
Today saw the return of Corner Bakery with its number one fan, Ducky Momo.
Besides remembering that I could get breakfast paninis all day other fab news from CB quarters was discovering that all the soup will now be served every day. No more of this nonsense with trying to remember what they have Sun - Tues and Wed - Sat. Only to forget and show up wanting a soup they don't have that day. That is a serious bummer. And now that won't happen anymore which is awesome. Ducky got a big bowl of chicken noodle with some potato chips. I had one of those power panini thins with egg cheese spinach and avocado. SO good! Also not bad calorie wise since the bread is razor thin. If it had been toasted anymore it would have been like eating a sandwich on Melba toast. Notwithstanding all that it was excellent. CB can cook some eggs people. For real.
Ill give this a 4.5 and a recommended.

The Gang's All Here . . .
OOOh Special Day today. I was allowed to tag along at lunch with Twist, Chungry and Ducky Momo for dumplings. The trip made even more special by also nabbing a Godfather booth in the food court. My compliments to you on that Chungry!
Nothing new to say. Ducky Momo got me a combo of pork and veggie. I ate the veggie, he ate the pork plus his full order of chicken. Not sure where he put it all. Whoever rolled the dumplings today is the person I like. The dough was not too thick or chewy. Just right. The medium sauce also was just right. I forewent the Starbucks refresher for an iced chai latte. Really good but pretty decadent. It pretty much blew my calorie count for lunch. Oh well.
I'll give the dumplings a 4 today on the strength of the dough. Complementi Doozo. Twist and Chungry stopped off for donuts on the way back. I can't really eat donuts after 11 in the morning so I just can't really make any comments on that. Plus I have a conference call for the next 3 hours that I need to stay awake for so donuts not really an option for me.

Something to Talk About . . .
Finally! A real lunch! The Boss Lady and I decided to catch up and took a trip to Golden Seafood House. It sounds Chinese but it's not. It's Mexican seafood and it is pretty fantastic. Good crowd of working dudes and Mexican families there all happily eating. Most of the big burly dudes were having soup which made us wonder what they knew we did not on the soup front. Next time I will have to have the soup I guess.
Started with a large ceviche. Nice tang and spice. All the fish was fresh and done well. Could have used more avocado but since Boss Lady doesn't eat avocado I got to have it all so ultimately it worked out.
My main dish was the fried shrimp and oyster combo. I subbed out my fries or fried rice option for a salad. I figured the fish was enough fried for the day. Got a nice big side salad that was good and fresh. Likewise the fried shrimp and oysters were fantastic. Fresh and had a nice cornmeal breading that I prefer to a heavier batter. Also not greasy tasting. No idea how they managed that but I'm not complaining. Delicious and a good portion. I wasn't able to eat all the shrimp and oysters.
Afterwards we ventured over to the fresh produce market down the street and wandered around there a bit. Pretty cool open air market. I bought some mushrooms and parsley. Could have also bought a ton of other stuff that I had no idea what it was. cactus leaves, any kind of dried pepper, agave leaves, things that looked like albino coconuts and other things that looked like avocados with chia pet hair. Those, frankly, were a little unsettling and scared me. Throw in great weather and it was a very nice end to the week.

More Soup . . .
Continuing the uneventful lunch theme here, yesterday I had egg drop and crispy spring rolls from Pad Thai on the next block. Initially Chungry and Twist were going to bring me some soup b/c I had a lunch conference call (who schedules those?), but it ended early so I trucked it over to Pad Thai to catch them. Pleasantly surprised to see Awesome Co-Worker there (Dietz if you are on the Chungry blog.) so was glad I went with the last minute pop in. After waiting forEVER I finally ordered my soup and spring rolls to go and then ate them all alone at my desk. But, at least I did get a few minutes of lunch company while I was waiting for my food.
Spring rolls were hot and crisp even after sitting in the styrofoam container for several minutes. Egg drop was pretty good. Didn't blow my mind or anything. Nice eggy taste but not too strong. A little too much actual egg in it for my taste along with lots of ground up chicken. Ground chicken always makes me nervous b/c I can't help but feel that it's like all the unusable scraps and floor scrapings. Broth not too thick which I like. Some egg drop soup is super thick which is super gross.
Soup I'll go with a 3. The spring rolls were better at a 4. Pad Thai is not always the best but I would recommend it anyway.
