Monday was a work lunch with some firm attorneys. We went for sushi at Azuma. I had the Texas roll which was some version of a spicy salmon roll and I had a house salad. Salad was pre made and given to me right out of the fridge. I hate that. Sushi was great though. Ill give Azuma a 3.5. It's usually pretty good when I go.
Tuesday, I was traveling so didn't really eat lunch. I did however meet a friend for dinner in DC at Founding Farmers. Although packed it seems to have passed its hip and trendy period bc there were an awful lot of old people there. I'm now at the point where I'm old enough that if I think you are old then you're pretty up there. Nonetheless enough younger peeps at the bar brought down the average age. The Schtick at Founding Farmers is that it's owned by a farm coalition and serves local and fresh products. Usually those places have small menus. Not so at FF. menu was too big I thought. I am paralyzed by large menus and all the choices. Asked the waiter dude for some recs and he swore up and down pot roast was the way to go. That just wasn't striking me so I went with chili. He misadvertised it by telling me it was cubed beef and not ground. The menu was inaccurate by saying it had cannelloni beans in the chili. It had maybe 5. And it was ground beef. It was fine. Kind of Cincinnati style with a sweet kick to it. Came with some bleu cheese muffins that sounded good but in reality were pretty heinous and a bad idea.
Started with a Brie and sweet sautéed onion bruschetta type thing. Not bad but there were way too many onions that overpowered the cheese. I give it a "meh". My friend got the roasted chicken with potato and butternut squash. Looked good and she was happy with it. I had asked Chungry's advice on an entree but he got back to me after I ordered. Guess what he suggested? The pot roast.
Also got a homemade ginger soda. YUM. Spicy, not too sweet. I had 2 even though $4 for a soda is ridiculous homemade or not. I'll say 3.5. I need to go back and have pot roast though I think.
Wednesday was grilled cheese at government agency cafeteria. Awesome with capital A. And they always have good dill pickles. No complaints. Actually my only beef with eating at FERC is how long the hot grill line is. I'm always the last person to get lunch and be seated. Everyone else is smart and gets the hot bar or salad bar. They do have good chicken on the salad bar so I guess I should just give up and do that next time.
chili with bleu cheese muffins.
Thursday I have no idea what I ate. Treebeards maybe? I have yet another pic on my phone of shrimp etouffee and squash casserole with a side of buttercake. I do recall squash casserole not up to snuff. still good but not enough breading in the casserole and what there was was dry so not enough egg and milk in the mix. Buttercake, good. Luckily Ducky Momo ate most of it so I only got a few bites which is just enough.
Friday was a bar lunch thing with a speaker and Jason's deli. Had roast beef on croissant. Very nice. fresh croissant, dry sandwich, good fruit cup and an oatmeal raisin cookie. No complaints. I ate half the sandwich then took half home with me. Then I forgot to take that half out of my handbag and the dog finally found it Saturday and ate it. An empty brown wrapper was in the middle of the kitchen floor. Took me a sec to figure out what it was. Hope you enjoyed it Dog.
