Breakfast Edition . . .

Working from home today to wait for several repair dudes for various and sundry things that need fixing. After getting everyone to daycare, summer camp and bus stop decided to treat myself to a breakfast sandwich from Starbucks.

Today we have a bacon egg and Gouda on ciabatta bread. Let's just call it what it really is though. An upscale egg mcmuffin. I have lots of love for the egg mcmuffin. Toyed with getting one today but felt like a scrambled egg vs the hard boiled of the mcmuffin. It's all subtleties folks.

Off topic: typically I am all drive thru at Starbucks. Lately though our usual one has been seriously fubar on the drive thru front. Since I was not also getting coffee I thought it might be faster to go in. Holy crap was that place packed. All the tables inside and the patio were full. What the hell do all these people do at Starbucks in the morning? It's crazy.

So sandwich by SB and coffee by me today. SB cannot make coffee better than I can. Not being immodest. It's just a fact. If you like Starbucks coffee try some Cafe du Monde. That is THE Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. If you can't find it at the store get some online. Since I just had a baby I am mainlining caffeine these days. Coffee with chicory is the bomb. A little cream. A little turbinado and you are all set. It doesn't get much better.

Back to my sandwich. I'm just going to jump right in. This sandwich kicks ass. I am a big fan. It's served hot natch but doesn't get all hard if it cools off before you eat it. Clearly 'bucks has magical microwave technology. I can't tell if the egg is real or not but either way it tastes great, is light and fluffy and has good texture. Bacon is really thin which was initially a concern but has turned out ok. You can actually take a bite without having to wrestle with the bacon. Despite the thinness it is distinguishable in the sandwich. Gouda is a nice touch over cheddar and not as greasy as cheddar can be. The ciabatta roll also excellent. Not too chewy. Good consistency. Overall the sandwich is a delight. I think calories are comparable to an egg mcmuffin but I will need to confirm. Off the top of my head I think this sandwich comes in at around 340. Not bad for a filling and hearty breakfast. Hearty for me I should say. If you have a big appetite then this may just be like a snack for you. Try it anyway. And the cafe creme by me was also excellent. Strong but not overpowering. Good flavor. A hint of sweetness but not too much.
So I'll go with a 4.5 here and a recommended.

No idea what lunch will be later. Stay tuned.

Ed. Note 8/20:  Checked nutrition and the sandwich is 350 calories. Lunch ended up being a pb and honey sandwich on light wheat bread at home.  The fridge repairman never showed up either.
